International Day of the Girl Child

My girl beyonce couldn’t have said it any better … “who run the world?,.. GIRLS!!!

Empowerment of and investment in girls are key in breaking the cycle of discrimination and violence and in promoting and protecting the full and effective enjoyment of their human rights”

-United Nations Resolution 66/170

On 19th December 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare 11th October as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

This year, for the fourth annual International Day of the Girl Child, the theme focuses on adolescent girls and the Sustainable Development Goals, which set a range of international targets, including on gender equality, to be achieved by 2030.

In his statement to mark this year’s international day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon notes: “Our task now is to get to work on meeting the SDG targets and making good on our promises to give girls all the opportunities they deserve as they mature to adulthood by 2030.” – www.unwomen.org

And we agree with him, right?

So Join me, continue to say …

  1. No to Child Marriage

  2. No to Sexual Violence of the girl Child

  3. No to Illiteracy

….Girls are our future…
